[So You Want to Be a Demonologist](https://archiveofourown.org/works/6630457) -- Gravity Falls (but really the Transcendence AU) -- the first fic can be read completely fandom blind, for the sequels you may want to consult the [TAU Wiki](https://tauwiki.fourisland.com/) (The character of Elisha in particular is borrowed from another fanfic that I had to track down myself.)
[Fictitious Persons](https://archiveofourown.org/works/52010518) -- DC (specifically the "My Adventures with Superman" cartoon) -- fandom-blind friendly
[Life Happens](https://archiveofourown.org/works/14779667/chapters/341828360 -- DC (specifically batfam) -- similar setup to *Fictitious Persons*, but goes in a very different direction. I really love both of these fics. When I read this I only had the vaguest idea that Batman has a sidekick called Robin who died at one point; so it's definitely fandom-blind friendly :P
[Compassion Builds No House](https://archiveofourown.org/works/42274860?view_full_work=true) -- DC (specifically Red Robin comics) -- this one is less canon-blind friendly, but I kinda fell hard into batfam after reading Life Happens and was able to pick up enough from various fanfics to enjoy this. It's probably my favorite DC fanfic of all (though all thre that I've linked make the short list)
[Don't Look Back](https://archiveofourown.org/series/1771663) -- Star Wars -- this is a long series with three complete works (totally 600k words) and an on-going fourth work. I've been consulting Wookiepedia because I don't remember the prequel trilogy well, but I think you could probably enjoy this without doing that.
[The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Holiday Special](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32546) -- multi-fandom and metafictional -- this one *just* makes your minimum wordcount, and is SO MUCH FUN. It'll make more sense if you're familiar with [Yuletide](https://fanlore.org/wiki/Yuletide), or fandom exchange events in general.
[Caught Up in Our Stories](https://archiveofourown.org/works/30020544/) -- MCU -- the story is good, but what really makes this fic stand out is the variety and creativity of it's multi-media genre-hopping. It's a hardboiled detective story and an overly-chatty recipe blog and a Choose Your Own Adventure and an Eye Spy game -- and more!! And the execution of every single one of them is completely brilliant.
[The Fifth Act](https://archiveofourown.org/works/362128) -- Final Fantasy 7 -- might be fandom-blind friendly?? I watched a letsplay of the OG game (polygons my beloved) just to read this fic and then turns out that this fic is set during the prequel game!! But whatever, I still was blown away by this fic, I think it's one of the best time-travel fanfics on all of AO3 (*Don't Look Back* linked above is also on my short list).
[the dogfather](https://archiveofourown.org/works/13760487/chapters/31624473) -- the best Harry Potter fanfic of all time, YCCMV. By simply existing on the internet you probably know enough about this fandom to read.
[demon alchemist](https://archiveofourown.org/series/31364) -- FMA -- for a change of pace, a more tragic/serious story (though it has a happy ending). Has some really beautiful writing. This actually isn't my favorite metisket fic (I can't forgive that my favorite character is dead the whole time) but I think it's a really interesting one, and so I'm reccing it for more variety. I definitely recommend going through [mestisket's other works](https://archiveofourown.org/users/metisket] and reading antyhing that catches your interest -- their style is pretty fandom-blind friendly and they don't miss.
[Salvage](https://archiveofourown.org/works/21116591/chapters/50249441) -- ATLA -- hurt/comfort found family extraordinaire!! Sorry, that's a really meme-y pitch, make I'll come back and write a better one. This has incredible character arcs and worldbuilding. I read this in my peak ATLA phase but I've heard of plenty of peopel enjoying it fandom-blind.
